Kopaonik is, without a doubt, the best mountain resort in Serbia. I love it with my whole heart – its snowy slopes, its pine-scented air, its sunsets, its energy. There’s magic in this mountain, and I’ve created some of the best memories of my life here. It should be a paradise. But each year, I come back with more disappointment than the last. The journey starts with dread – the roads in the resort are in terrible condition. When you arrive, you’re met with chaos: parking is overpriced, disorganized, and a constant source of stress. It''s like they actively discourage you from bringing a car, while offering no better alternative.Walking around the resort feels like an obstacle course. In winter, pedestrian paths are buried under mountains of uncleared snow; when the snow melts, you get pools of icy water or deep mud – even in the main square, which looks more like a construction site than the heart of a mountain resort. It’s shameful, honestly. The ski infrastructure is aging visibly. Chairlifts are outdated. Broken and faded information boards offer little to no help, especially for newcomers. And year after year, there’s nothing new – no new slopes, no new lifts, no improvements, just the same overcrowded runs.Meanwhile, prices keep rising. Skipasses have become absurdly expensive, especially when compared to the complete lack of investment in the user experience. Every year it feels like you''re paying more to get less.Accommodation prices are skyrocketing too, even though many buildings are falling apart or built with no regard for the mountain’s natural beauty. Overdevelopment is rampant, and Kopaonik is slowly losing its soul to concrete and profit.I still love this place. I love it so much it hurts. But it’s heartbreaking to see how neglected, exploited, and mismanaged it has become. Kopaonik deserves better – and so do the people who keep coming back despite everything.
